Luis Romero, BIOFRACTAL’s founder, originally from Colombia, has 20+ years of international experience in innovation leadership, animal nutrition & health, and animal production. After managing poultry grandparent and broiler breeder operations at the beginning of his career, he obtained a PhD in Animal Science at the University of Alberta in Canada in 2008.
He led innovation teams, innovation strategy and project portfolio in Danisco/DuPont Animal Nutrition (UK, 2008-2017) and DSM Animal Nutrition and Health (Switzerland, 2017-2020), developing products behind multimillion dollar brands of feed additives, including feed enzymes, gut health additives, and others.
Our Story
During his work developing new products, a large pain was the inconsistent effects of some products in commercial environments. It was not unusual to spend 7 to 10 years developing a product to find out that it would not provide the expected results in particular environments or diets in real production. Omics technologies offered a potential solution, but they were not mature enough and there were difficulties connecting basic science, applied science, and value in the field.

Luis had the vision to create a solution that could make that link, that was scalable, and that used AI developments to understand what happens inside the animal and how it connects with performance and welfare outcomes. This in turn would create great value for the industry and allow professionals making better informed decisions. That was the seed of BIOFRACTAL.
To make it a reality, several collaborations with data scientists, animal scientists, molecular biologists, software developers, sequencing partners, industry innovators and business leaders have been developed over the last few years. Many old and new friends have supported the start of BIOFRACTAL directly and indirectly. A big thanks to all who have contributed and trusted us through the first part of the journey.
